My Opinion on Homework Ban

I think banning homework completely is preposterous. I hate homework more than anything, but it still has it's place. If work isn't being done at home, classes would have to be longer, and that would suck even more than homework. I used to be able to understand math without doing practice problems, so I got in the habit of not doing my homework. But now math needs to be practiced to be understood, and I am not doing well. Kind of went off on a different track there, but I think my opinion has been expressed fairly well. Homework>Longer Classes

Logarithmic Functions and Laws

The last couple of math classes, we have been learning how to solve logarithmic functions using four laws. It isn't making perfect sense yet, but I think i will get it after a few hours of studying.

New Unit, Exponential Functions

New week after doing miserably on a test, and it is looking like it will be difficult as well. There is lots of similarities to the transformations unit so that part will be easier than the new stuff.

Trig Identities

We started learning about trigonometric identities in class on Friday, but I was away for a football game. We continued learning about them (I began learning) on Monday, and I'm pretty sure I don't understand what I'm doing. Today, we continued with the stuff that seems like madness, and also learned how to find and check Extraneous Roots.

I haven't posted for a long time now. It's not that I haven't been learning anything, I have just been lazy I guess. For the last two weeks in math, we have learned how to solve 1st and 2nd degree trig equations, how to solve trig equations over the set of real numbers, and how to graph trig functions. These past few days we learned about transformational geometry, which is pretty confusing stuff. Today, we learned about flips, one-to-one functions, and Even/Odd functions.

Eureka!

Today, Mr. Max did some more examples of solving trig equations and something clicked and I started to understand what he was saying. Once I got how to do a few things, the things I knew vaguely before became clear.

Today we did Trig Equations, which have me quite confused. We used Graphmatica and a cool ronblond.com java applet to graph trig equations. I don't really understand how they work yet, but they seem like they will do the job when i know how to use them. Yesterday, I missed class because I went on a football trip to Yorkton. We won 48-24 and I had a receiving touchdown.
